Ossos
A picture postcard...
Portraying perect harmony between its historical
past and nature, this beach is considered
to be one the main sights of Búzios.
Fishermen have been casting their nets for
centuries in this lovely cove with clear,
calm waters. The number of buildings is limited,
and the traditional architectural style blends
well with nature. The lovely Sant’ Anna
Church and Yacht Club, are vestiges of a not
too distant past, giving a pleasant sense
of nostalgia...
History
According to some researchers, the beach is
named after the whale bones left behind on
its sands by fishermen.
Other historians believe that the beach is
named after the human bones which remained
after a massacre of the Tupinambá indians,
committed in the mid-15th. Century, by a Portuguese
force led by Captain Armador Estevão
Gomes, which left the beach as an open cemetery.
In previous decades the Ossos area used to
be the main commercial district in Búzios.
How to Get There
Between the Praias de Armação
and Azeda, access is via the Praça
dos Ossos. The Sant’ Anna Church and
the Yacht Club are local landmarks
General Information
